All TU Teaching Fellows must complete Semester 1 of Towson University teacher training:
Semester 1 – There are two requirements for the first semester.
- Work with teaching mentor – Depending on the option you are selected for, you will work with a teaching mentor to determine what needs to be completed in the first semester to get prepared for teaching in Spring.
- Seminar on College Science Teaching – During the Fall semester, several teaching seminars will be offered at the Columbus Center (701 E. Pratt St., Baltimore, MD 21202). Topics cover common issues in college teaching followed by group discussions. Seminar schedule and topic list will be shared in late August.
Upon successful completion of Semester 1, Teaching Fellows will be assigned to teach one section of their assigned course. You will be observed by a master teacher, who will provide feedback and mentorship about your teaching practice.
- BIOL 120 Principles of Biology. This course is designed for undergraduate students who are non-science majors. It is focused on the big ideas in biology: the nature of science, basic cell structure and function, genetics, ecology and evolution. Bioethics and socioscientific issues are embedded into the course to contextualize the concepts.
- BIOL 191 Introductory Biology for the Health Professions. This course is designed for undergraduate students who are health professions majors. It is focused on the big ideas in biology, with a concentration on topics important to health and medicine.
- BIOL 221L Human Anatomy & Physiology 1 Lab OR BIOL 222L Human Anatomy & Physiology 2 Lab. This course is designed for undergraduate students who are health professions majors or biology majors and is focused on basic human anatomy and physiology principles.
- CHEM introductory course. TBA. This course is designed for undergraduate students and is focused on basic chemistry concepts, such as atomic and molecular structure, bonding, and stoichiometry.

Yes – Adjunct salary – Fellows must be citizens or on relevant Visa.
Expected Weekly Commitment
Expect 15 to 20 hours per week in Semesters 2 and 3.
