Overview
The TA Orientation aims to enhance the instructional experience of our undergraduate students and to introduce Hopkins TAs to evidence-based inclusive instructional practices.
Fall TA Orientation
Held annually at the end of August each year, the Fall TA Orientation is mandatory for all first-time teaching assistants of the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences, Whiting School of Engineering, and Peabody Institute.
The mandatory plenary session and additional training recordings are offered asynchronously via Canvas. A 1/2 day in-person training option is also provided.
Spring TA Orientation
Held annually mid-January each year, The Spring TA Orientation is mandatory for all first-time teaching assistants of the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences, Whiting School of Engineering, and Peabody Institute.
The mandatory plenary session and additional training recordings are offered asynchronously via Canvas. TAs are asked to complete these prior to the start of their TA assignment.

Teaching Assistant Manual
“Making the Difference” provides general teaching guidance and resources available at Hopkins.
The manual is also provided in the Canvas Training site and is updated annually.
Teaching Assistant Training Videos
A collection of helpful videos for TAs. It includes recorded sessions from a previous TA Orientation as well as student/TA scenarios to help TAs identify challenging interactions and how to handle them.
